The Types of AlSiC Materials
Well, it is easy to find a material named alumina silicon carbide on the web, but it is not the AlSiC we are introducing here. Alumina silicon carbide is one kind of refractory material.
Another is low volume fraction AlSiC ( volume fraction describes the ratio of one element material' s volume to the total volume of the composite ). These AlSiC is usually produced by powder metallurgy method, which does not provide low coefficient of thermal expansion quality and is not suitable for electronic packaging. This AlSiC is not the kind we are introducing here.
What introduced here, is high volume fraction AlSiC composite, which volume fraction ratio is over 53%. High volume fraction AlSiC provides the must to be qualities of low CTE + high TC combination suitable of electronic packaging. The typical volume fraction is between 63%~85%, contributing to 6.5~9ppm/℃ coefficient of thermal expansion, perfectly matching with the CTE of silicon chips and gallium arsenide(6 ppm/℃ mostly).
